When to travel?
We keep saying it, but really, any time!! Generally, South Africa’s summer lasts from December to March before winter arrives from June to August. Cape Town and the Western Cape experience winter rainfall and a largely dry, hot summer. Most of the rest of the country, including the Greater Kruger National Park (Sabi Sands) area, have summer thundershowers and a dry winter.
There isn’t really a “low or high season” in South Africa, due to international travellers visiting during their respective holiday seasons of July-September (South Africa’s winter), meaning rates are often the same throughout the year. It does mean however that South Africa’s winter of June-August can see mild/comfortable days and colder evenings – often comfortable for many tourists who like to avoid the intense heat. It’s beautiful any time of the year.
THE SABI SAND SAFARI EXPERIENCE
The Sabi Sand Wildtuin (Private Game Reserve) is a 55 000 hectare private reserve that was pioneered by local landowners in 1948. Through years of eco-tourism, wildlife in the Sabi Sand is well habituated, resulting in extraordinary and incredibly close, and prolific encounters with big and small game all year round.
The most prestigious game reserve in South Africa, the Sabi Sand is renowned for some of the most incredible leopard viewing in the world. Two perennial rivers, the Sabi and Sand Rivers run through the reserve, which add further dimension to the bio-diversity of this area and have created a riverine bushveld rich in wildlife.
An exclusive 5-star lodge, Savanna is situated in the internationally famous Sabi Sand Reserve within the greater Kruger National Park Conservancy. Our internationally acclaimed lodge offers an exclusive, personalised and intimate safari experience to our guests, with a unique style of tented accommodation.
Our lodge lies in an area where ‘Big 5’ sightings are so frequent, it is not unusual to see lion, leopard, elephant, buffalo, and rhino in a single game drive. Our specially designed game viewing vehicles and highly trained guides with a vast knowledge of the African bushveld, take guests on close and intimate encounters with a large variety of wildlife. Numerous nearby dams and a series of waterholes in front of the lodge attract many species, especially in the dry winter months when elephants are daily visitors.
The Dulini Collection presents the signature safari experience in the company of expert guides and in the comfort of exclusive six-seater game viewers. Exhilarating encounters with wildlife and sincere hospitality are what make Dulini an unforgettably enriching experience. The exclusivity, hospitality and sincerity that is Dulini, epitomizes the intimacy of each boutique lodge; accommodating the safari dreams of individual adventurers, exclusive parties celebrating special occasions together, and romancing honeymooners.
Beneath the shade of ancient Ebony and Leadwood trees, the tranquil haven of Dulini Moya is enigmatically embraced by its rich riverine setting. There is a restorative quality to the peaceful atmosphere of the camp, on the banks of the Mabrak River. The symphony of bird song and the passage of wildlife add to the allure of Dulini Moya.
Much like the giant trees after which it is named, Dulini Leadwood takes deep root in the heart of all those who linger here. This is the ultimate safari choice for the discerning traveler in search of exclusive solitude. Tucked secretively in the confluence of the Sand and Mabrak Rivers, Dulini Leadwood offers intimate and serene solace in a lodge that is completely at peace with its verdant setting.
Embraced in the riverine grandeur of the languid Sand River, Dulini River offers inspirational views and an awe- inspiring atmosphere. The serenity of the setting is reflected in elemental tones and textures of six magnificent suites, which emerge from the banks of the river. Peace and tranquility abound.
Experienced and dedicated career guides and trackers impart their amazing knowledge of the natural world, allowing guests to unobtrusively enter the lives of the largest and smallest creatures. From the mist shrouding the bush at dawn till the blazing sun sets behind distant mountains, the magic of a Savanna & Dulini safari will provide incredible photographs and unforgettable memories. In addition, there are never more than two vehicles at a sighting, except with very relaxed animals in open terrain, in which case three vehicles are allowed.
Optional game walks are offered to guests who would like to experience the fauna and flora on foot. Led by an armed guide and tracker, they provide fascinating insight into the geology and botany of the area. Trackers who have grown up in local villages impart a wealth of information on the uses of bushveld trees and plants in tribal customs and rituals, as well as their herbal and medicinal properties and practical applications.
Include: Viewing decks with enchanting views of the surrounding bush, gym, dining boma, wine cellars, beautiful food/wine, wellness offerings & more!
