Nestled in the heart of one of the most famous wildlife conservation areas in the world, community owned and eco-tourism based Nkambeni Safari Camp welcomes you to Big Five country. Here, in the world-renowned Kruger National Park, thrilling up-close and personal wildlife experiences await you in an exclusive-use 11500 hectare private concession.

The camp is ideally located close to the Numbi Gate, around 4 hours by road from Johannesburg. Close by are the Lowveld towns of White River and Hazy View and you are just two hour’s drive from the stunning Blyde River Canyon. The perfect destination for your South African safari.

Specifically designed to leave the smallest possible foot-print in this pristine wilderness, the en-suite luxury tented suites are tastefully decorated to provide comfort and an authentic African bush ambiance. Your timber and canvas suite overlooks the bush and you can enjoy the rare privilege of a (completely private) outdoor shower under the wide African sky. Each suite has an outdoor deck area with bush views, perfect for morning coffee or an evening sun-downer. For your comfort, each room has a mosquito net and air-conditioning. Some of the suites are suitable for guests with limited mobility – please enquire when booking.

The camp offers early morning and afternoon game drives with enthusiastic and very experienced rangers. Their knowledge of the area is unsurpassed and you can look forward to enjoying exciting close encounters every time you set out. Game drives use open-sided 4X4 game viewing vehicles which optimise viewing and photographic opportunities. If you would prefer to pack even more excitement into your day you can book half-day or even full-day game drives. Nkambeni also offers night drives which give you the opportunity to see some of the park’s nocturnal creatures or possibly catch a glimpse of the big cats as they become active and set off to hunt.

A guided bush walk is a wonderful way of getting up close to many of the smaller creatures, plants and birds that we often overlook on a game drive. If you are up for a great adventure you can join one of the excellent guides on foot in the concession. This is a great opportunity to do some bird watching and photography and identify many endemic plant species.

Nkambeni Safari Camp is ideally placed to access a wide variety of Lowveld activities and attractions when you feel like a change of pace. Why not embark on a grand adventure and get a bird’s-eye view of the park from the lofty heights of a Hot Air Balloon? Other popular activities include river rafting, cultural visits to near-by villages and panoramic tours to explore the magnificent Blyde River Canyon, the world’s largest “green canyon” which boasts some of the deepest canyon cliffs in the world.

Nkambeni Safari Camp was the brainchild of the Nkambeni Community, who conceived the idea of establishing a sustainable and eco-friendly source of income for the local Nkambeni people. As you enjoy your wonderful wildlife experience you can rest assured that your safari is directly contributing to a long list of community projects.

Nkambeni currently involved in a wide variety of community projects including:

  • Feeding schemes, water supply (tanks and boreholes) and general school maintenance
  • Assistance to churches and clinics with regard to necessary infrastructure
  • Sponsor annual football tournaments for the Nkambeni community
  • Assist with development of cultural experiences like traditional dancing, singing and more
  • Support anti-poaching education within the community
  • Offer support and fund-raising for community feeding schemes and safe-houses for orphans
  • Support and encourage general clean-up days
