The Camps

NGOMA SAFARI LODGE, CHOBE FOREST RESERVE

Located in the Chobe Forest Reserve in Western Botswana, the private Ngoma Safari Lodge is located on the edge of a plateau, offering endless views over the seasonal Chobe flood plain. Ngoma Safari Lodge is a classic safari lodge based on a private concession. It also bears witness to magnificent sunsets – the ultimate way to celebrate the end of another perfect African day.

Big game and big herds; lion, leopard, buffalo and elephants are very often seen, while hippo, crocodile, giraffe, sable and roan antelope also call Chobe Forest Reserve home. The flood plain also attracts large herds of migratory zebra, that follow a 300 mile round-trip between the Angola-basin and Chobe – making it the longest terrestrial migration route in Africa.

MACHABA CAMP, OKAVANGO DELTA

Machaba Camp is a traditional style camp nestling in the game-rich Khwai area. The Khwai Concession is a 35 000 hectare reserve located in the north-eastern section of the world-famous Okavango Delta and it shares its westerly border with the Moremi Game Reserve.

Wild variety of animals; the size of the herds and variety of species is spectacular. Highlights include the buffalo and elephant herds, lions and packs of Africa painted dogs (also known as wild dogs).

Activities

Enjoy vehicle based game viewing, guided walking safaris, night game drives, birding and cultural experiences. Machaba Camp also offers the unique Mokoro (local dug out canoe).

Families

Families with children of all ages are welcome at Machaba Camp. At Ngoma Safari Lodge, children aged 10+ are welcome. Please enquire for your tailormade quotation.

When to travel?

October – December: The hot parched land lies in anticipation of spring’s first rains. Animals are drawn closer to permanent remaining water sources and the first migrant birds return. The first rains make for good wildlife viewing.

January – March: The Celsius ranges from 18-31 degrees and daily afternoon thundershowers mean the landscape is rich in greens and blues. The wildlife is spread out in good numbers and all migrant bird species are present.

April – June: The air is drier and the temperatures dip ever so slightly. The wildlife is starting to concentrate on water systems. There is very good all-round viewing however most of the migrant bird species have now gone north.

July – September: The temperatures drop to zero degrees at night but are a warm 25 during the day. There are large wildlife concentrations around water sources and the vegetation is thinning, which makes for excellent visibility

Sustainability: Your booking supports local guides and communities through eco-conscious travel and supporting local enterprise through community visits and purchasing of local crafts. The following safari camps operate on solar power with back-up generator, with sustainable approaches utilised throughout the camps.
