Located high above the floor of Africa’s Great Rift Valley, Angama Mara is a remarkable owner-run safari lodge overlooking Kenya’s Maasai Mara, considered by many as the loveliest game reserve on the continent. Angama is a truly sustainable experience with just fifteen tented guest suites, a private airfield and access to the Mara below, tailor-made safari days and a famously warm Kenyan welcome.
Angama Mara’s elegant tented suites have been designed to make the most of the extraordinary views of the Maasai Mara from every angle – from the bed, the bath, the sitting area, the shower and even the w/c. With the front of the tents featuring floor-to-ceiling glass, the roof and other three sides are canvas – classic safari olive on the outside and cream on the inside for romance. Spanning over 100 sqm, the tented suites all include spacious decks for in-room dining, massage treatments and red rocking chair safaris.
Family suites are available: Angama has two sets of interconnected family suites which are identical to tented suites, except with the addition of a fully enclosed walkway linking them together. This means you can still enjoy your space and privacy, with the peace of mind of being able to safely and easily move between the two tented suites.
Home to all of Kenya’s great mammals year-round and more than 450 bird species, it is a life-changing experience to go on safari in one of Africa’s most iconic reserves. That’s not to mention the annual spectacle of two million wildebeest, zebra and Thomson’s gazelle braving the dramatic crossings of the Mara River as they make their way into the Mara Triangle.
Days are as action-packed or as gentle as you prefer. The Mara Triangle is home to Africa’s great mammals, a mere 15-minute drive from Angama Mara and guests can experience hot air ballooning, walking safaris, cultural visits to neighbouring Maasai villages – or simply relax and do nothing at all.
There are many moments during a guest’s stay when they can interact with the Maasai people, both at Angama Mara and in a neighbouring village. In and around the lodge, guests will spend time with Maasai staff, as the majority of the people who work here come from local communities; and guides, naturalists, the baker, and a camp manager are all Maasai.
Every evening at sunset, Maasai warriors perform in the lodge’s traditional brush-packed boma and here, guests are able to not only photograph this time-honoured celebration of song and dance, but can also participate should they so wish.
Angama Mara welcomes children aged 6 years and older in Peak Season (1 July-30 Sept and 23 Dec 2022-4 Jan 2023) and all ages welcome during Standard Season (9 Jan 2022-30 June and 1 Oct-22 Dec).
The first two children under the age of 12 in any reservation stay free of charge at Angama Mara during Standard Season.
Each camp has 4 sets of interconnected tented suites. Children 12 and under are able to share a triple (either with parents or siblings), please request our children’s rates.
Angama Mara is a low impact, sustainable safari camp that treads lightly on the earth. Our clients staying at Angama contribute directly to the conservation of this area and towards local people.
Each guest at Angama Mara contributes a US$ 10 per night donation to the Angama Foundation, a separate entity which has been setup to support the communities that neighbour the lodge and the wildlife and land that surround it. The Foundation is active through three fields of work: Education, Healthcare and Conservation.
