Welcome to Gibb’s Farm, a historic lodge on the outer slopes of the Ngorongoro Crater. Located on the outer slopes of the Ngorongoro Crater lies Gibb’s Farm. Founded in the 1920s as a coffee plantation, we embrace traditional East African hospitality with our roots extending deep into the land and our heritage here.

An idyllic retreat while exploring the Ngorongoro Crater and Lake Manyara national parks, as well as Lake Eyasi, on safari in Tanzania. Recline with a cup of freshly roasted coffee overlooking the Great Rift Valley in lush surroundings.

Green Season: 1 April – 31 May, 1 November – 18 December 2022
Shoulder Season: 6 January – 31 March, 1 September – 31 October 2022
High Season: 1 – 5 January, 1 June – 31 August, 19 December – 31 December 2022

Immerse within the age-old rhythms of the farm, freshly roasted coffee in hand, from a private veranda. A welcome retreat, our cottages showcase hand-selected local artwork, many pieces from our “Artists in Residence” program.

17 refurbished one-bedroom cottages, twin queen beds or king-sized, are perfectly located around the farm. Each offers a private terrace, living area, en-suite bathroom, garden or valley view and outdoor shower to create a personal, richly appointed space to soak up the sense of welcome and rhythms of the farm.

When staying at Gibbs Farm, be sure to book an extra day to enjoy all of the activities available throughout the gardens, farmyard, bordering forests and nearby village of Tloma. Go bird watching, enjoy the pool & terraces, head out coffee picking and discover coffee roasting on property. There’s also an artist’s gallery to admire, or head out on a bike ride, visit the farm’s animals and extensive working gardens, or perhaps take a baking class at the farm.

Head out on an East African safari in the nearby national parks: Ngorongoro Crater, Lake Manyara, and Lake Eyasi. Lake Eyasi also offers cultural experiences with the Hadzabe tribe (don’t forget to taste the local brew). COST: from US$ 350 up to 7 guests in 4×4 vehicle.

This nearby safari paradise offers dense bush, open plains, a vast lake, and natural watering holes – all a safe haven for a rich array of wildlife. A short 45-minute drive from Gibb’s Farm makes this half-day safari to Lake Manyara is ideal for guests who still want to enjoy time on the farm. COST: from US$ 350 up to 7 guests in 4×4 vehicle.

Leave on-foot directly from your cottage on this two-hour walking safari through the forested slopes of the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. Discover towering waterfalls and the incredible “elephant caves”, created by elephants digging through dense rock with their tusks to ingest the vitamin-rich soil. COST: from US$ 18 per person (Conservation Fee only).

0-6 Years: Free of charge when sharing with parents (max 3 children per cottage)
7-16 Years (Sharing): Free accommodation when sharing with parents. Max 3 children per cottage. $ 70 per child per day for meals (breakfast, lunch & dinner).
7-16 years (Own Cottage): 75% of the adult rate if in own cottage (for the first two children). Additional children – a further 20% discount applies. Max 5 children per cottage

The essence of Gibbs Farm is all about sustainability. Everything you’ll eat at Gibbs Farm such as fresh fruits, vegetables and herbs are freshly picked from their organic gardens. Everything here is locally sourced. Truly a farm-to-table philosophy.

Through the Gibb’s Farm artists-in-residence program, East African artists stay at the farm and create commissioned artwork. Meet some of East Africa’s most talented artists, learn about their influences and inspiration and watch them create their artwork (available for purchase). Guests (through their stay) also support Tloma, a nearby village. Choose from a school visit, cycling tour or the opportunity to meet a local family and learn about Iraqw culture and traditional ways of life.

Guests may also contribute to the SCHOOL DESK PROJECT for US$70. At schools in the area, three to four children typically share one desk, so new furniture is always appreciated.
