About

Chitabe Camp is situated in a private concession area on an island in the south-east of the Okavango Delta. Playing host to a breathtaking mosaic of wooded, wetland and grassland habitats, the area is famed for its incredible numbers and diversity of wildlife, in particular predators.

WHEN TO TRAVEL

Look, trust us when we say travel any time! Whilst some camps rely on the annual Delta floods, at Chitabe, water activities aren’t a focal point of activities, instead focussing on specialised game drives and walking. Take to the skies for a spectacular helicopter flight over the Delta, or choose to while away time by the pool in the afternoon sun. Young animals are born during the early part of the year (low & mid season) making for some special sightings of newborns. Or chose the high season to guarantee those watery treasures that the Okavango Delta is known for. The choice is yours.

Low Season: January – April
Mid Season: May, December
High Season: 1 June – 31 October

Accommodation

The camp’s eight spacious Meru-style tents are raised on wooden decks under large, shady trees. Each tent has twin beds, en-suite facilities and indoor and outdoor showers. The thatched dining area, bar and lounge are built on raised decks to provide superb views across the floodplain, and a pool allows you to cool off in the heat of the day.

Activities

Chitabe is located in the Chitabe Concession, which covers 22 000 hectares of pristine Okavango Delta wilderness. This unique area harbours a massive variety of habitats within close proximity giving rise to a surprising diversity of species. The mix of Okavango and Kalahari makes for an excellent home to an abundant array of herbivores: giraffe, buffalo, red lechwe, tsessebe, impala and elephant, which in turn support the larger predators: lion, leopard, spotted hyaena, cheetah and wild dog.

Activities on offer;

  • Day game drives
  • Night game drives
  • Guided walking safaris
  • Helicopter flights
  • Gym and pool

Sustainability

Chitabe’s commitment to the Wilderness Purpose includes providing financial and logistical support for a variety of projects ranging from research and monitoring programmes to education and social upliftment projects.

Chitabe is also run on solar power. YES!!
