When to travel?
The incredible diversity of mammal and birdlife on offer means that no 2 days are ever the same in Northern Kafue. This is a destination for the safari purists and for travellers wanting to escape the crowds. Much of Kafue National Park is cut-off during the winter and rainy season, making June-November a prime time to take advantage of this miraculous place.
This package is available from 1 June – 30 November 2022 & 2023.
Day 1-4: Arrival from Lusaka (road transfer – don’t worry, we’ll arrange it for you)
On Day 1, your driver will meet you at Lusaka Airport and drive you to Kafue River Lodge where you will spend 2 nights before embarking on the next leg of your journey to the beautiful Busanga Plains. There you will spend 4 nights before returning to Kafue River Lodge for your final night before being transferred back to Lusaka.
KAFUE RIVER LODGE
Design and tailor make your experience at Kafue River lodge. With safari cycling, game drives, boating, fishing, birding or simply enjoying the view over the river from the deck, you can choose to be as active or relaxed as you like. The combination of specialist guides to make the most of your activities during the day and the hospitable lodge team you are sure to feel at home with us.
Kafue River Lodge is your reward at the end of your journey into the North-Eastern Kafue. The stretch of the Kafue River where the lodge is located is varied, gentle and favoured by wildlife. The 4 ensuite chalets overlook the river and the sounds of hippo carry clearly across the grounds with the miombo woodland behind camp also playing home to a steady stream of game and birds.
Activities include vehicle game drives, boating, walking and bush bikes.
Day 4-7: Busanga Plains
Our guides have been tracking the prides for years and can fill you in on new contenders to the alpha male and how old each cub is. As the season progresses and the water dries up the animals move closer together, making for spectacular viewing. With dinners on the deck and striking sunsets, Kasonso Busanga is the perfect combination of warm hospitality and great guiding.
On day 7, you will enjoy a full breakfast before embarking on the trip back to Kafue River Lodge through the park to spend your last night at Kafue River Lodge.
KASONSO BUSANGA CAMP
The Busanga Plains is undoubtedly the best place for wildlife viewing in Kafue National Park and Kasonso Busanga – our bushcamp – is located right in the heart of the prime game viewing area. The Busanga Plains area is perfectly situated to see large numbers of red lechwe, but is also well known for the big lions, buffalo, elephant, wildebeest and relaxed roan antelope. Kasonso offers superb wildlife encounters at excellent value for money rates and combines superbly with Kafue River Lodge and Kikuji Camp.
Kasonso is an authentic bush camp that provides all the important fundamentals of a comfortable camp but focuses on the outstanding guiding and wildlife experience. There are 4 tents, each with ensuite bathrooms and verandahs overlooking the plains. In the central boma area, you’ll find a comfortable seating area, bar and and outside deck which you can use at your leisure.
