Golden Monkey trekking + wildlife safari

Why is this safari better?

This is not just Rwanda at its best, it’s some of the world’s best travelling sights and experiences. You’ll trek to responsibly view endangered mountain gorillas in the Virunga Volcanoes, walk through the Nyungwe Forest to view chimpanzees and even go on game drive to see wild lions, elephants and more in Akagera National Park. Bonus activities include trekking to view the beautiful Golden Monkey’s, plus a chance to visit the gravesite of fame primatologist Dian Fossey.

Sustainability: Your booking supports local guides and communities through eco-conscious travel and supporting local enterprise through community visits and purchasing of local crafts. Park fees paid go directly to conservation efforts and employment of local guides and communities around the park.

When to travel?

Depending on your physical ability for walking, you may prefer to avoid the rainy season in spring and following summer, choosing to travel during the dry summer months for an easier footing. Trekking the gorillas may take 3-7 hours depending on the gorilla’s location on the day of your trek. So be prepared for a nice walk in the jungles of Virunga. For the more adventurous, trekking during the low/rainy season can be tricky but your specialised guides are there to ensure the safest route through the forest.

Low Season: March, April, October, November (peaks of the rains)
Mid Season: January, February, May, December (green season, young animal births)
High Season: June to September (drier season, easier trekking)
