Botswana Ditches PCR Test Requirement

Entry requirements to Botswana have been amended. Maybe it’s time for a visit?

We are thrilled to confirm that the Botswana Government has removed the requirement for FULLY VACCINATED travellers to Botswana to obtain a negative PCR test certificate to gain entry.

Effective as of 14 February 2022: Fully vaccinated travellers against COVID-19 entering Botswana do not need a negative COVID-19 PCR test result from departure of country of origin, provided proof of vaccination is provided via a vaccination certificate in English at the port of entry to Botswana.

This is a fantastic step towards renewed travel that is safe and as thrilling as ever before.

WHERE TO SAFARI IN BOTSWANA

Botswana is vast. You will notice a change in vibe, the awe-inspiring vastness, when you visit such spaces. Hearing nature all around you is like nothing you will have heard before and there’s no better place on earth to feel this, than Botswana.

OKAVANGO DELTA

The Okavango Delta is a vast and varied ecosystem created as the Okavango River flows into the Kalahari desert in Botswana. Rich in wildlife, this World Heritage Site is a sanctuary to some of the world’s most endangered animals and birds. The famed Okavango Delta sees annual flooding that brings with it a host of new experiences, from Mokoro rides, to boat cruises and elephants playing in the waters. An oasis in an otherwise dry environment the Okavango Delta is known for its superb wildlife, with large populations of mammals and excellent birding particularly in the breeding season.

KHWAI PRIVATE GAME RESERVE

Khwai Private Reserve is a 200 000 hectare private reserve positioned between the Chobe National Park and the Moremi Game Reserve. The area was previously a hunting block, now turned into a photographic, sustainable and ethical tourism concession in direct partnership with the local community. Travellers can see elephants, big cats, wild dogs, kudu, sable, crocodiles and hippos, along with excellent birding.

Hyena Pan Camp starting from US$ 595 per person per night

CHOBE NATIONAL PARK

One of Botswana’s top safari destinations due to the large concentrations of wildlife, Chobe offers a superb and exciting safari experience. An astonishing one third of the Globe’s African Elephant population lives in Botswana – approximately 120,000 Elephant; the majority of whom traverse and inhabit the Chobe region. Visitors can also expect to see enormous herds of Cape Buffalo – often in their hundreds, along with Giraffe, Zebra, Kudu, Impala and, of course, predators!

MOREMI GAME RESERVE

The Moremi Game Reserve is a spectacular area consisting of pans, floodplains, lagoons, grasslands, forests of acacia trees, savannahs and dense mopane woodlands. Jutting into the Okavango Delta, the Moremi Game Reserve preserves the heart of Africa’s finest game viewing region. Nowhere in southern Africa will better wildlife be found. The sitatunga and lechwe live in the papyrus banks of the waterways with lions, cheetahs and packs of wild dogs hunting in the open grassland. The Moremi Game Reserve is home to over 400 of the Okavango’s species of birds, including the African fish eagle, crested crane and sacred ibis.

Moremi Crossing Camp starting from US$ 360 per person per night

CENTRAL KALAHARI

The Kalahari is the dominant ecosystem in Botswana.  Whilst influences of wetlands and monolithic rock formations are evident and important, the baseline environment is Kalahari Desert – the desert opens up more unusual and exciting activities. As well as traditional morning and afternoon game drives many camps also offer sleepouts and cultural activities such as bushman walks and village visits. These harsh desert landscapes provide an incredibly interesting contrast to the lush Okavango Delta and add wonderful variety to any safari itinerary.

OUR SAFARI CAMP RECOMMENDATION
Kalahari Plains Camp starting from US$ 767 per person per night

MAKGADIKGADI SALT PANS

The Makgadikgadi Salt Pans offer a unique safari experience, suitable for every type of traveller.  At first glance, it may seem a landscape devoid of anything – except the lunar salt crust – but looking closer will reveal a fascinating environment that attracts adventure and animals.  During the wet season (Nov-April), local rains transform the dry, powdery basin into a vast lake. Literally overnight, these wetland lakes become noisy, animated playgrounds for a spectacular range of African water birds. During the dry season (May-Oct), which coincides with the colder months of the year, the Pans become a different sort of playground – perfect for adventure and excitement. Quad-biking across the surface is exhilarating and fun. The thrill is compounded by the paranormal setting.

OUR SAFARI CAMP RECOMMENDATION
Planet Baobab starting from US$ 115 per person per night

LINYANTI

The Linyanti concession in northern Botswana provides a great contrast to the Okavango Delta. The Linyanti is sandwiched between the Okavango Delta to the south and west and the Chobe National Park to the East. The area is famous for the immense herds of elephants which flock to the waters in their thousands in the dry season. Buffalo herds can be staggering too. The dry season yields the best game viewing in this area, with good predator sightings – including lion, leopard and even wild dog. The varied woodland and floodplain environments are home to a variety of species and offer an interesting safari experience.
