Day 1: Arrival into Nairobi, Kenya – Giraffe Manor (1 night)

Arrive into Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, where you are collected by your driver and transferred to your first stunning experience in Kenya. An overnight stay at a very special hotel.

Often referred to as one of the most instagrammed properties in the world, Giraffe Manor is set in 12 acres of private land within 140 acres of indigenous forest in the Langata suburb of Nairobi. One of the most fascinating things about Giraffe Manor is its resident herd of Rothschild’s giraffes who may visit morning and evening, poking their long necks into the windows in the hope of a treat, before retreating to their forest sanctuary.

Activities at Giraffe Manor are aplenty; If you are not too busy feeding our resident herd of endangered Rothchild’s giraffes, you’ll find plenty to do during your stay. Relax within the manor’s grounds or explore the leafy surrounding suburbs which offer several acclaimed local craft centres and some lovely boutiques. Guests may also opt to adopt an elephant orphan as part of our support for the David Sheldrick Orphanage in Nairobi.

Day 2: Nairobi – Lewa Conservancy (3 nights)

The beauty of Lewa Wilderness isn’t just in the incredible scenery and wildlife explored daily with game drives – but in the wealth of activities and experiences to be had at every turn. Situated on the edge of one of Kenya’s most private wildlife and environmental conservation projects, the wildlife-rich Lewa provides guests a home-away-from-home experience that’s hard to find these days.

When you arrive at the lodge, you’ll immediately feel like you’re with family. Just nine exclusive rooms dot the Lewa Wilderness landscape. Six cottages are tucked into the hillside overlooking the sprawling Eastern Marania Valley, plus a further three garden cottages that are cozy yet expansive are set amongst the beautiful lawn.

Day 3-4: Game drives and activities in Lewa Conservancy

At Lewa Wilderness we go beyond the game drive, with exceptional wildlife and wilderness viewing opportunities. From the traditional game viewing vehicles (we’ve recently converted one of our Landcruisers to be 100% electric), to guided walks and breathtaking scenic flights in our retro yellow WACO bi-plane to unforgettable horse riding safaris for all ages and levels and even camel riding and fly camping.

As a guest with us, you are automatically supporting the Lewa Wildlife Conservancy, renowned for both its pioneering conservation initiatives as well as community and education programs.

Day 5: Lewa Conservancy – Mara North Conservancy (4 nights)

Karen Blixen Camp is uniquely situated on the rich banks of the Mara river while located in the Mara North, one of the most dense private wildlife conservancies in the Masai Mara ecosystem. Karen Blixen Camp is an eco-friendly luxury camp that gives a sense of the exiting explorer days when the savannah was seldom visited and elaborate and comfortable camps were set up providing a luxurious and stylish retreat after each day’s adventure.

Each tent is en-suite and furnished with a large comfortable bed, Persian rugs and a cozy armchair giving you the ultimate in camping luxury. The private bathroom has a flush toilet, twin wash hand basins and a romantic outside shower with amazing view to the sky.

Tents can be configured for either double or twin occupancy, where under prior arrangement a 3rd and even 4th bed can be added for children below the age of 12. Family unit consists of two tents with a shared verandah. All tents are placed with undisturbed view along the Mara River giving unique and private game viewing to the Oloololo Escarpment and its rich wildlife.

Day 6-8: Game drives and activities in Mara North Conservancy

Guests of Karen Blixen Camp are able to enjoy early morning game drives, afternoon game drives, full day game drives and thrilling night game drives within the Mara North Conservancy. Partake in game and nature walks with experienced local guides, hot air balloon flights (additional cost), community visits and even plant trees during your stay.

During the migration season (or on request) guests are offered the opportunity to go for a full day game drive to the Masai Mara National Reserve or the Mara Triangle to have a chance to see the thousands of wildebeests and zebras crossing the Mara River. Please note additional park fees apply for this option.

Day 9: Mara North Conservancy – Tsavo National Park

To the west lies Mount Kilimanjaro, a dormant volcano and the highest peak in Africa. To the northwest ripple the gentle Chyulu Hills, some of the youngest hills in the world. All around you, as far as the eye can see, span miles and miles of untouched African wilderness, home to the greatest biodiversity on Earth.

Designed to be minimally intrusive, our camp’s 17 luxury suites offer sweeping views of the surrounding landscape, as well as total privacy for our guests. The tents’ open-plan design invites the cool breeze that drifts over the nearby natural springs, and brings the sounds and scents of the African bush directly to you. The result is a one-on-one experience with Africa; this is the bush in all of its immediate and unapologetic beauty.

Day 10-11: Game drives and activities in West Tsavo

You wake naturally at dawn, feeling rested and at peace. In the distance, the first rays of light strike the eastern flank of Mount Kilimanjaro and the trees around you sing and squawk and chirp with life. A nearby hippo grunts his morning greeting. You wrap your hands around a cup of coffee, prepared just the way you like it. This is only day one and you already know you never want to leave.

Activities: Day and night game drives, bush walks, full-day hikes and outings to the Ngulia Rhino Sanctuary, Mzima Springs, Chyulu Hills, Amboseli National Park and Lake Jipe are all on offer. A cultural visit to the Maasai town of Iltilal can also be arranged, where you can observe the traditions of the Maasai people first-hand. If you choose to stay in camp, you can relax on one of our many viewing decks, watch our resident hippos and crocodiles wallow in the nearby springs, or enjoy an indulgent massage at our spa.

Day 12: West Tsavo – Nairobi

It’s okay if you shed a tear, it’s been an amazing experience in Kenya.

Depending on time available, enjoy a final morning game drive or walk, followed by breakfast. You are then transferred to the airstrip for your return flight to Wilson Nairobi, where you are met and transferred to Jomo Kenyatta International Airport for your journey home.

NOTE: your itinerary is flexible and we can tailor-make the number of nights, additional destinations and extensions to your safari to include beach stays (such as Diani Beach or Zanzibar).

Lewa Wilderness: Lewa Conservancy continues to run one of the most successful rhino protection programs in Africa. The survival of this iconic species rests on long-term solutions that involve local people, securing its habitat and reducing demand for its horn. The Lewa team have been instrumental in setting up the Lewa Education Programme (LEP) to help local children get a good education and teach them the importance of the wildlife. Today, the LEP sponsors 18 schools with a total population of 6000 students. A visit to a school can be arranged during your stay.

Karen Blixen: The camp has been awarded ‘Gold Eco Rating’ by Eco Tourism Kenya, an organisation that provides relevant and practical guidance for attaining sustainable solutions of concern for the environment and welfare of communities. Water is heated using solar panels to avoid any use of firewood and thus conserving the Mara Woodlands. Electricity is provided in all tents 24 hours a day by extended solar panel system and battery storing bank.

Finch Hattons: Finch Hattons have actively been involved in safeguarding the Tsavo ecosystem through their support for the Kenya Wildlife Service and supporting local communities through employment of local people at the lodge. Finch Hatton’s guest tents are built using sustainable materials and elevated off the ground to ensure minimal environmental impact. Finch Hatton’s are currently involved with a solar power initiative, permaculture project and wildlife conservation education.
